Letter from CCHF President – March 17, 2010…
Re: Legislative Day – Wednesday, May 12, 2010
Dear Friends of t he Bleeding Disorder Community,
This is a critical year for you to ensure that your voice is heard at the state capitol. The budget cuts have been horrendous for many groups and more are likely to come. If you, or someone in your family, is receiving your medical care through Medi-Cal, CCS, or GHPP it is especially critical for you to step forward and let your state representatives know how important these programs are to your family. This year is also exciting as we’ve reintroduced our standards of service bill (SB 971)—passage of this legislation is critical for codifying in law potentially life-saving standards of care for people with bleeding disorders.
Each year the Hemophilia Council of California, which is composed of the four hemophilia chapters, sponsors a legislative day. We would like you to participate. Your participation will involve the following:
- Commit yourself and/or other members of your family to spend a day visiting your representatives at the State Capitol in Sacramento
- You will be paired with other members of the hemophilia community to visit the office’s of your representatives and tell them why these programs are critical to our community
- Over lunch you will hear from a speaker with state government expertise who will provide important and helpful information
- You will be equipped with the knowledge and experience to know that you CAN make a difference.
On May 12, 2010 we will meet in the basement of the State Capitol to have breakfast and receive packets of information (including talking points) for when you visit the legislator’s offices. You will go in groups to prearranged offices and visit with either the legislator or a staff member. Lunch will be provided and you will hear an informative speaker. Some groups will have additional appointments with legislative offices after lunch and all the day’s activities should be concluded by 4 PM.
Please volunteer your time for this important day. Since our chapter is in such close proximity to Sacramento we are able to attend Legislative Day without flying or driving long distances like our fellow volunteers from San Diego, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. It is even more important, therefore, that we have strong participation.
Because it takes time to set up these appointments we need to hear from you by March 31, 2010 so we can begin scheduling meetings. For more information or to register, please call Lynne Carey at (916) 549-3125 or via e-mail atlynne.m.carey@gmail.com. For registration we will need the name of each participant, their home address, a phone number and an email address. Please call or email today and let us know you are ready to support the bleeding disorder community.
Sincerely,
Sean Hubbert, President
CCHF
